Our center is equipped with a dual energy radiotherapy treatment system, the Clinac 2100C/D.
This enables our staff to treat tumors safely and with few side effects. The Clinac uses
high energy x-rays which are specifically directed to kill cancer cells. It will not make
you radioactive.
When Treatment Begins
You will be told ahead of time about any special restrictions or clothing you will need to
wear when you come for treatment. Our therapists will help you plan your treatment schedule.
Treatment is usually provided between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The
length of time you will receive treatment will be discussed with you, but most courses of
therapy last several weeks. Each individual session is about 10 minutes.
Our staff will closely monitor your treatment and keep in contact with your physician.
Many patients will experience some side effects that will vary with the area being treated.
These potential side effects will be thoroughly discussed with you before treatment begins.
If you experience any problems, please tell our staff so we can help take care of them.
Family members are welcome to accompany you to your treatment sessions; however, they cannot
remain with you in the treatment room. Most patients are able to come alone and drive themselves.
